Pacificans coped as best they could over the Fourth of July. The beaches were closed and legal and illegal fireworks were everywhere, despite an attempt to clamp down on fireworks use. Several fires were reported. The photo above is by Chris Clements. It shows Linda Mar beach deserted. On a normal July 4th, it would be packed with fireworks watchers.
As of July 5, California has logged 253,421 cases of coronavirus. Deaths from the virus remain at 6,332. In the Bay area, those numbers are 28,581 and 600, respectively.
In San Mateo County, there have been 3,536 cases logged and 108 deaths. In the county, there are 88 ICU beds and 49 remain available. There are 259 “surge” beds in the county and 244 remain available.
In Pacifica proper, 75 COVID-19 cases have been reported to the County Health Department. Deaths by city are not officially reported.
Unofficially, the Pacifica Tribune has had reports of 9 dead from coronavirus.
