Beach Boulevard is not yet open because city of Pacifica crews are still repairing the seawall, Director of Public Works Lisa Petersen said.
The first phase to repair the hole in the seawall by the pier is complete. Workers placed large rocks in front of the opening of the hole on the ocean side. That will protect the area while a long-term fix is done this week, once the tides are advantageous, she said.
“The long-term fix likely will involve forming and pouring a concrete plug into the hole from the street side,” she wrote in an email to the Tribune. ”Last week, while inspecting other parts of the sea- wall, staff detected a separation in a seawall panel approximately 150 feet north of the pier. Upon further investigation, a void was discovered under the sidewalk next to the seawall panel that was 10 feet deep by 15 feet long but only a few feet wide from the sea wall to the street.
“Fortunately, this was an early catch, and city staff has already repaired the void area using a slurry cement mix,” she wrote.
